AFD Team Membership

All divers must register with AFD and complete the 2027 Team Membership process before being able to register for any Practice Groups. Please click the registration link to right of the screen, or at the bottom of your mobile device to begin this process.

The 2027 Team Membership is only required once per year, but must be complete regardless of when a diver decides to join the team.

This is only a registration to join AFD in the 2027 Season. This registration does not cover training tuition, meet fees, etc. This must be completed before a diver registers for any Training Group, for any session throughout the 2027 Season.

***This membership is not required for divers try-out practices.***

All divers are required to complete an evaluation process with AFD coaches before registering for any Training Groups. This is required for all returning divers at the start of the 2027 Season (August 2026) and for any diver that joins the team anything throughout the 2027 Season (Aug. 2026 - Aug.2027).

After the evaluation process, the coaching staff, diver, and family will meet to discuss which practice group will be the best fit based on what the diver's goals and commitment level are.

Divers on the Non-Competitive Teams are always encouraged to start competing whenever they're ready, it's just not a requirement. AFD team gear is not required. Divers on the Non-Competitive Teams may be invited up to the Travel Team at anytime throughout the season. There are additional costs to be on the Travel Team and minimum practice requirements.

Learn to Dive is for divers 8th grade and younger. This is basic diving 101. Anyone can participate, no experience needed. The goal of this class is to learn the basic dive elements, including safety and performance of the different dive categories. Learn To Dive divers are able to compete in the Ohio Diving League (ODL) & any other qualifying competitions but it never required.

Divers must be comfortable and competent swimming on their own in deep water!!!

Learn to Dive divers can train 1-3 days per week.

Varsity Team divers focus on skills and dives necessary to be a competitive high school diver. Varsity Team divers need to learn all dive categories and will use all board levels for training, but High School competition is focused on 1 meter. Varsity Team divers can be invited to the Red, White or Blue Teams.

HS Varsity divers are encouraged to compete in ODL and AAU Diving meets, but it is not required. 

HS Varsity divers can train 1-4 days per week.

Divers on the Travel Team are required to compete in meets. Each level of the Travel Team is designed to progress a diver's focus to higher-level competitions.

Travel Team is by invitation only and requires a significantly higher commitment level than the Non-Competitive Teams. AFD coaches may invite divers to the Travel Team or to move divers up into more competitive teams throughout the year. Diver, family, and coach must all be aligned before these promotions take place. AFD coaches may demote divers throughout the year if commitments to competitions and practice requirements are not being kept.

Red, White and Blue Teams all come with additional costs; as competitions are required for the Travel Team, coaching fees are also required and are due before a diver may join or change teams within the Travel Team.

Red Team is for divers of any age who have advanced past Learn to Dive and have the goal of being invited to the White & Blue Teams. Divers are coached on basic and intermediate skills and dives. The goal of this team is to start controlling basic dive elements, performance of all dive categories and dives from all board levels, 1 meter, 3 meter. Red Team will focus on competitions within the Ohio Diving League (ODL), and if qualified, regional AAU Diving meets, & potentially USA Diving meets.

Red Team divers commit to training for at least 2 days a week and can train up to 4 days per week.

ODL meets are required for Red Team divers. AAU Diving & USA Diving meets are highly encouraged.

Red Team divers have a minimum practice requirement of 2 days per week.

White Team consist of highly competitive divers whom have dedicated themselves to train hard and put forth their best effort everyday. This program is meant to transition divers from recreational diving to the more competitive diving competitions around the country. Divers will be training for AAU Diving National meets and USA Diving Regional and Zone meets.

AAU Diving meets are required for White Team divers and USA Diving meets are highly encouraged.

White Team divers have a minimum practice requirement of 3 days per week.

Blue Team consist of highly competitive divers whom have dedicated themselves to train hard and put forth their best effort everyday. This program is meant to be enjoyable but it is not designed for recreational diving. Divers will be training for AAU Diving and USA Diving Jr. National competitions and possible senior-level competitions. It is only through high level diving technique and increased knowledge of the sport that divers increase their opportunity to improve and become great.

AAU Diving & USA Diving Junior meets are required for Blue Team divers and Senior level meets are highly encouraged.

Blue Team divers have a minimum practice requirement of 5 days per week.
