Reporting Absences

It is appreciated if you can report an absence as soon as you know it will be happening. This helps us know where we may have space for a potential makeup. Once your registration is completed, you will be added to the Roster in the Sports Engine app. This will take place by the first day of practice. You will receive an email notification that you have been added, how to download the app and to View Team. You will not be able to see the schedule in your app until this has been completed.

You can report your absence the following ways:

  • Option 1 - Open Sports Engine App > tap on Teams (star at bottom) > tap on appropriate Practice Day heading > tap on schedule > tap on the date of the absence > tap on No under RSVPs > if you tap on the (3) dots after you tap on No, you can add a note. Example, absent - sick. Only you and the staff will see this note. **This is the preferred way for you to report an absence**
  • Option 2 - Use the directions above, tap on Messages instead of Schedule and that will allow you to write Mrs. Keating a note. (similar to sending an email)
  • Option 3 - Email
  • Option 4 - Text 330.261.2186

Mrs. Keating's office hours are Monday - Friday 9am-11am. Any response outside of these times might be delayed. Please do not wait until the last minute (whenever possible) to try and report an absence.

Makeup Policy

All makeups are to be arranged in advance with Mrs. Keating based on availability. You can arrange by emailing, texting 330.261.2186 or messaging through the Sports Engine app. Makeups MUST be scheduled AT LEAST 24 hours in advance AND within a week of the absence. Mrs. Keating's office hours are Monday - Friday 9am-11am. Any responses outside of these times might be delayed.

Reasons makeups will be granted:

  • Illness
  • Injury
  • School-graded Events (example, band concert)
  • AFD cancellation due to weather, unplanned facility closures, staffing, etc.

Reasons makeups are denied:

  • Family vacations
  • Too much homework
  • Attending a Dive Camp (incidentally, all Dive Camps must be approved by AFD Staff before attending by emailing
  • Didn't feel like it today
  • Other commitments (social, other sports, etc)

There might be some one-off instances that we grant makeups for as well. Feel free to ask Mrs. Keating if you have any questions. All makeups must be completed within a week of the absence during the same diving session, example if your absence is during the January/February Registration Session, your makeup MUST be arranged/completed by the end of the session.

All announcements, changes & updates will be fully detailed by a message we will send out in addition to news updates. We encourage all the divers to have the app on their phone as well (if they have one.) They need to be logged in with the same login you used to register (it's a family login.) It's helpful for them to see upcoming deadlines and announcements that might affect them. We also strongly encourage you join the closed Facebook Group (AFD Information Center) as we post updates here as well.

Open Sports Engine App > tap on Teams (star at bottom) > tap on a Practice Day > tap on News **you can even email these News articles to yourself or send to someone else if you like by tapping on the square with the arrow pointing up once you are in the News article**

You can enable push notifications so you are notified with a pop-up on your phone every time a news item is added or you can disable this feature. This is personal preference. If you choose to disable the notifications, we strongly encourage you to manually check the News/Calendar on regular basis, even daily.

Disable app push notifications by tapping on Account (bottom right) > tap on Gear (top right) > tap on Notification settings. You can change them all at once or you can go to specific sections and toggle by different types of pop-ups.

Don't want the email reminders everyday? Follow this link for instruction. This setting modification is done by logging into your account on our website Once again, if you turn off these emails, it is your responsibility to manually go in the app to verify your schedule and any possible changes. While on the subject of the website, the site is intuitive to your login. If you are not logged in, you will not see all the pages. If you are logged in, it will show you more pages often specific to you.

Information Overload!

We know there is A LOT to keep track of in the world of diving! And A LOT is last minute! #divelife Especially to newbies it can be overwhelming! That's why we try to break it down for you every step of the way. And remind you, A LOT! But, we need you to help us by carefully reading the information we have taken the time to detail and utilize the tools we have provided (especially the Sports Engine app and the closed Facebook Group called AFD Information Center.) The AFD website is a very useful tool as well, especially the main page and Calendar.

Ongoing information is posted in the Facebook Group including when we have "unofficial" information that is not yet posted to the News (where all the "official" information goes.) Many parents like the heads up when we hear the "unofficial" information as soon as we know it especially about facilities and meets.

Speaking of meets, events are created in the AFD Information Center for meets as well as a variety of other events and happenings within our diving community.

ODL's = all skill levels -

*Optional for DEV/INT, but strongly encouraged. Registration is open for the November ODL in Canton. (Check your news for Registration info.)

*Mandatory for RWB/PREP, unless otherwise instructed by AFD Staff. RED/RED PREP = November, December, January, March and May. WHITE/BLUE/COLLEGE PREP = November, March and May.

*Registration for November ODL at Canton is open (check your News.)

AAU (Required Skills, by invite only) -

*Mandatory for RWB not qualified to USA Diving path.

USA (Required Skills, by invite only) -

*Optional for DEV/INT/PREP, by invite only. If you have interest in these meets, please let Mrs. Keating know. They require specific skill sets in most cases. Usually these meets require travel outside of the state of Ohio.

*Mandatory for RWB, must attend John Smith (April) or AAU Qualifier (March), encouraged to do both.

Hotel room blocks will be announced as they are arranged and are first come, first serve for the overnight meets.

Team Suits

You can order your Team Suit at this link. Everyone should get the "Primary" suit as this is for the one-day meets. The 2nd Day and 3rd Day are for those participating in multi-day meets. Please allow TWO weeks for your order to be processed as these suits are custom-made.

Dive Bags/Team Jackets

You can order your AFD Dive Bags (optional) and AFD Team Jackets at this link. You can order individually at any time throughout the year and have these shipped directly to you. However, we will do a bulk order 2x per year in anticipation for upcoming meets during that part of the year. We just closed the last bulk order for 2019-2020 Season on Feb 1. Any orders placed outside of these bulk orders (which is a-ok for you to do individually) are not guaranteed to arrive for any specific meet whereas the bulk orders are guaranteed to arrive for certain meets (example, the fall bulk order was placed in time to receive for the November ODL and the spring bulk order was placed in time to receive for the March meets.)

The only divers authorized to purchase "National Team" jackets are those that attended the 2019 AAU / USA National meets.
